When you book me as a speaker on an assignment, you automatically get a copywriter included in the price. Because I can’t help it. It is not that I interfere unnecessarily, but often text changes are necessary to achieve good results.
My guess is that I act as copywriter in every third speak session, where the client is in the studio virtually or physically. I’m happy to provide that extra service, because credibility fades if there’s no control over “his and hers”, and personally I’m not interested in giving voice to grammatical gibberish.
For the past 15 years I have worked as a copywriter in Danish and English alongside my job as a speaker. Also in all the years I was a radio and TV presenter. That’s why I can’t help but intervene if someone has written nonsense or if the message can be made clearer. Often it’s small adjustments that make the pieces fall into place.
Customers are often very optimistic. Especially when it comes to the number of seconds vs. the right mood of the spot and number of words. So here it’s great to be able to chop a heel and clip a toe along the way, without it costing extra or slowing down the whole process.
Remember this the next time you need a female speaker in English or Danish. I’ll throw in a free copywriter!
