I’m a hell of a social chatterbox. And when I spend most of my working hours in my home study, I really need to be out in the real world. And I’ll be damned, I did the other day when I hosted a very successful Casting Boot Camp in Copenhagen.
I’ve been thinking for a long time about passing on some experience to the talents of tomorrow. A mash-up of everything I’ve learned from my decade as a radio and TV host, combined with my current life as a full-time speaker. So when my American collaborator, Darion Taylor, who runs Tailor Talent Reels in Los Angeles, asked if we shouldn’t use the time wisely while he was in Denmark, it made sense to put together a boot camp that brings together the best of his world and mine.
Together with actress and film director Julie Ølgaard, we put together a highly relevant Boot Camp for actors who want to be sharper at nailing those all-important castings. And why is it so important…?! Well, in short, if you can’t perform at a casting, then the ball stops right there. No call back, no job. Casting itself is the end of the line for many aspiring talents, so that needed to change.
And I promise you, we spent the six hours of boot camp wisely. We tore them through the mill, and out the other side came a bunch of very well-rested and confident “campers” who will start getting more call backs very soon. Otherwise, you’ll have to call me Kurt!
My part, of course, was to make them aware of their vocal potential, stuff them with tips and tricks and throw them into the deep end with voice over, character acting, narration and commercials.
We are currently planning several Casting Boot Camps in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Online, and if the Corona doesn’t get in our way too much, we will announce new dates very soon
